A district court on Tuesday sent television anchor Dr Shahid Masood on a 14-day judicial remand in a case pertaining to the snatching of a journalist’s cellphone, according to media reports.
Dr Shahid Masood was presented before the court by the police on Tuesday. The petitioner had submitted in his plea that he was covering an event at the Islamabad High Court when Masood yelled at him and snatched his cellphone on October 29. On November 28, the court issued arrest warrants for the TV anchor.
The journalist whose cellphone was snatched by Shahid Masood had also filed a case at Ramna Police Station in Islamabad. He had submitted in the first information report (FIR) that Masood snatched his phone and deleted all the data he had gathered during the coverage. “Shahid Masood also threatened me and warned me of dire consequences,” submitted the journalist. On September 14, a court in Islamabad had directed police to arrest Dr. Shahid Masood and produce him in court in the PTV corruption case. The court had rejected a bail petition of television anchorperson in a case pertaining to the alleged financial irregularities in the state-owned PTV.
