The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday arrested Director of Paragon Housing Society Qaiser Ameen Butt from Khairpur where he went into hiding following the probe into the housing society scandal.
The anti-corruption watchdog had launched an investigation into the scandal after protests by dozens of victims against the housing society. Butt has been allegedly working with Khawaja Saad Rafique and Salman Rafique, who were already accused of corruption in the case, for the last 15 years.
The Interior Ministry on the request of the anti-graft watchdog had placed the names of the two brothers and Qaiser Ameen Butt on the blacklist. On November 12, in a letter written to NAB Chairman NAB Javed Iqbal, the Khawaja brothers sought transfer of the ongoing cases against them form NAB Lahore after expressing distrust over NAB Lahore DG Shehzad Saleem following his interviews to the media. “It is requested that the inquiries/investigations pending at NAB’s Lahore office may kindly be moved to some other region for an independent, impartial and honest investigation,” reads the letter.
